McConnell, Romney and the Collaborationist Republicans

Mitt Romney

The headline over at Breitbart read this way:

Poll: 79% of Trump Voters Believe ‘Election Was Stolen Through Illegal Voting and Fraud’

The Rasmussen poll headlined it this way as reported by BizPac:

Rasmussen poll: 20-30% of Democrats believe the election was stolen from Trump

Then there was the detailed report from Trump aide Peter Navarro, who wrote his report as a private citizen. The headline right here at The Jeffrey Lord reported this:

The Immaculate Deception: Peter Navarro Documents A Stolen Election

There’s more out there like this – oh so very much more. But the constant thread, the simple fact, is that millions of Americans believe the 2020 election was stolen. And stolen not just from President Trump – but from them.

And what is the reaction of the Republican Establishment – before we even get to January 6th, the date Congress meets per the Constitution to ratify – or not ratify – the Electoral College? An Electoral College many see as counting stolen and illegal votes?

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell: “Our country has officially a President-elect & a Vice President-elect.  The Electoral College has spoken…Today, I want to congratulate Pres-elect Joe Biden.”

Senator Mitt Romney: “Clearly, if one pushes long and hard, once you’ve lost, you’ve lost.

And oh yes, there was also this as headlined by The Hill:

Mitt Romney did not vote for Trump in the 2020 election

Then there was my own Pennsylvania US Senator, Pat Toomey. Recall that Mr. Toomey is where he is because he was the “conservative” challenger to then-incumbent liberal Republican Senator Arlen Specter, defeating Specter in 2010. The headline from Newsmax was this:

Pennsylvania Sen. Toomey Says It’s Time Trump ‘Accept’ He’s Lost Election

Not to be forgotten here is Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, as headlined here at Fox:

Rep. Kinzinger swipes at Trump, fellow House GOP for denying election loss: ‘It’s sad’
The Illinois congressman says it’s time to “Restore Our GOP”

As if that weren’t enough, Kinzinger added in a tweet:

Say what? Kinzinger says there is “no evidence”????

I personally have read lawsuits, read one affidavit after another from whistleblowers, listened carefully to state legislative hearings – and there’s plenty – more than plenty – of evidence of voter fraud.

So why are these Republicans and others going out of their way to sabotage millions of Republican voters, not to mention joining in to sacrifice the integrity of the American electoral process? Yes indeed, Mitch McConnell did a great job confirming judges. But there is no excuse for abandoning the field of battle in the middle of the battle.

So what in the world are McConnel, Romney, Toomey and Kinzinger and others in the GOP about? Not to mention all those Never Trumpers out there in the Lincoln Project and elsewhere?

Call them the Collaborationist Republicans. The Vichy Republicans.

For those who skipped their history of World War II and the fall of France to the Germans, here is a description of what it means to be a “collaborator” per Wikipedia:

“The meaning of “traitorous cooperation with the enemy”[7] dates from 1940, originally in reference to the Vichy Government of France which cooperated with the Germans, 1940–44.”

With millions of French lives at stake and the Germans pushing into Germany, the French collaborationists notoriously collaborated with the Germans, relocating their co-operating new government to the resort town of Vichy, thus establishing ever after the term “Vichy French” – which meant treacherous, turning their back on the French people to
cooperate with the enemy. It was left to French General Charles De Gaulle to refuse to cooperate with the collaborators, leaving France for Great Britain where he would become the voice of the French Resistance.

But wait, you say. Biden and company are the adversaries, not the enemy.

Hear this from former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich writing in The Washington Times:  The headline:

Why I will not accept Joe Biden as president
Unwillingness to accept election result grows out of a level of outrage unlike anything previously experienced

The former Speaker wrote this:

“Having spent more than four years watching the left #Resist President Donald Trump and focus entirely on undoing and undermining the 2016 election, it took me several days to understand the depth of my own feelings.

As I thought about it, I realized my anger and fear were not narrowly focused on votes. My unwillingness to relax and accept that the election grew out of a level of outrage and alienation, unlike anything I had experienced in more than 60 years of involvement in public affairs.

…When my candidate won, it was blamed on the Russians. We now know (four years later) Hillary Clinton’s own team financed the total lie that fueled this attack.

Members of the FBI twice engaged in criminal acts to help it along — once in avoiding prosecution of someone who had deleted 33,000 emails and had a subordinate use a hammer to physically destroy hard drives, and a second time by lying to FISA judges to destroy Gen. Michael Flynn and spy on then-candidate Donald Trump and his team. The national liberal media aided and abetted every step of the way. All this was purely an attempt to cripple the new president and lead to the appointment of a special counsel — who ultimately produced nothing.

Now, people in my world are told it is time to stop resisting and cooperate with the new president. But we remember that the Democrats wanted to cooperate with Mr. Trump so much that they began talking about his impeachment before he even took office. The Washington Post ran a story on Democrat impeachment plots the day of the inauguration.

In fact, nearly 70 Democratic lawmakers boycotted his inauguration. A massive left-wing demonstration was staged in Washington the day after, where Madonna announced she dreamed of blowing up the White House to widespread applause. These same forces want me to cooperate with their new president. I find myself adopting the Nancy Pelosi model of constant resistance. Nothing I have seen from Mr. Biden since the election offers me any hope that he will reach out to the more than 74 million Americans who voted for President Trump.”

Newt Gingrich is no collaborationist.

In short? In short, hell will freeze over before the base of the Republican Party collaborates in a stolen election. They will not simply resist, they will demand that a Biden Presidency be treated exactly as Democrats treated the Trump Presidency. Then – and only then, after a serious lesson is learned by Democrats and their corrupt media allies – can America be returned to the days of yore when losers gracefully conceded to winners and moved on as the “loyal opposition.”

There was noting of a “loyal opposition” in the last four years. Nothing. And simply because collaborationist Republicans wish to pretend it wasn’t so will not make it so.

Happy New Year. The New Resistance has begun.
