George Conway and that Pro-Communist China TV Commercial

George Conway

Does George Conway think we’re stupid?  Answer: Yes.

Here comes poor George and his Never Trump Establishment Republican pals masquerading as “The Lincoln Project” yet again. This time with a Hate Trump commercial titled “Mourning in America.”

If one is of a certain age one knows the title of the commercial is a take-off on Ronald Reagan’s 1984 commercial titled “Morning in America.” (Found here, the Reagan commercial was a re-cap of how America had come back from the devastation of the Carter years.)

The re-making of the “Morning in America” commercial as a now-deadly “Mourning in America” theme has a very interesting, tell-tale feature. Never will you hear the words  “Communist China” or even just “China”  in this commercial. Instead, the virus is blamed on….President Trump.

The irony?

This commercial is typical of the thinking of out-of-touch Establishment Republicans. By virtue of its silence on the role of the Communist Chinese party and the Chinese Communist government in the spread of the virus, the commercial is, in fact, an out-and-out defense of both. Choosing instead to blame the virus on Trump instead of the Chinese Communist Party…which lied to the President and every foreign leader on the planet about the imminent danger of the virus.

The “Lincoln Project”, like their Establishment Republican predecessors of the Reagan-era – who sought constantly to appease the Communists running the Soviet Union with so-called “détente” – can you say “Helsinki Accords”? –  are now seeking to shift the blame for the virus from Communist China to  President Trump. Exactly as the Establishment Republicans of the day sought to appease the Kremlin and attack Reagan for his hard-line views on Communism.

I know the Reagan commercial well because, in fact, I was working on the senior staff of the Reagan re-election campaign as the chief of staff to my boss, Reagan campaign co-chair Drew Lewis. And in fact, the Reagan commercial noted that America was “stronger” than it was in 1980, a specific reference to Reagan’s build-up of the military in staunch opposition to the Communist Soviet Union and its support for global Communism.

The laughably named “Lincoln Project” is nothing if not borrowing old Abe’s name and playing off Reagan’s commercial to make a commercial that does exactly the opposite of what Reagan was about when he stood up against Communists.

The “Mourning in America” commercial shifts the blame for the Chinese virus to Trump. In effect, by not mentioning the role of the Chinese Communist Party in hiding the virus from the world – but blaming Trump instead –  the Lincoln Project is now officially out there with an implicit defense of the Chinese Communists.

So.

The response of Trump supporters to the George Conways and his pale pastel pro-Communist China Establishment Republicans of the laughably misnamed “Lincoln Project”?

Bring it on.

And say hello to Chairman Mao.
