When most people think of essential needs, food and medicine are what immediately come to mind. Well, according to the cities of New York and San Francisco, marijuana is also considered an essential medication during a time of crisis.
Initially, when San Francisco went under lockdown, marijuana dispensaries were not considered essential, but after many of their residents complained, the city updated their list of essential services to include marijuana dispensaries.
Cannabis is an essential medicine for many San Francisco residents. Dispensaries can continue to operate as essential businesses during this time, while practicing social distancing and other public health recommendations.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health updated the policy through a Tweet in which they said, “Cannabis is an essential medicine…Dispensaries can continue to operate as essential businesses during this time while practicing social distancing and other public health recommendations.”
Rather than capitulating to the complaints of those who claim they need cannabis, perhaps San Francisco could put some thought and effort into stopping their homeless population from defecating on the street?
