Ratcliffe made his comments during an interview on Fox News as he discussed his concerns over the politicization of intelligence.

“These are legitimate national security intelligence tools that, when used properly, help us to collect intelligence on our adversaries that mean to do us harm,” he said. “But as we’ve seen and talked about, the problem here is that they’ve been abused, turned inward on American citizens to spy on them and to use it for political gain and control and censor political speech.”

Ratcliffe’s comments come as the Biden administration is appealing a ruling that would place restrictions on the ability of federal officials in their interactions with social media companies about the content posted on their platforms.

The ruling the Biden administration is appealing said “that President Joe Biden’s White House, the Department of Health and Human Services and officials at other agencies committed censorship in violation of the First Amendment by pressuring social media companies to remove or limit access to anti-vaccine posts and to take down the accounts of certain users,” according to Politico
