Well isn’t this interesting. Over here at The Los Angeles Times was this headline:

Hundreds in publishing sign letter objecting to book deals for the Trump administration

The letter, found here at the website of one Barry Lyga, a novelist, says this:

NO BOOK DEALS FOR TRAITORS

THIS IS A LETTER OF INTENT FROM PUBLISHING PROFESSIONALS OF THE UNITED STATES.

“We all love book publishing, but we have to be honest — our country is where it is in part because publishing has chased the money and notoriety of some pretty sketchy people, and has granted those same people both the imprimatur of respectability and a lot of money through sweetheart book deals.

As members of the writing and publishing community of the United States, we affirm that participation in the administration of Donald Trump must be considered a uniquely mitigating criterion for publishing houses when considering book deals.

Consequently, we believe: No participant in an administration that caged children, performed involuntary surgeries on captive women, and scoffed at science as millions were infected with a deadly virus should be enriched by the almost rote largesse of a big book deal. And no one who incited, suborned, instigated, or otherwise supported the January 6, 2021 coup attempt should have their philosophies remunerated and disseminated through our beloved publishing houses.

“Son of Sam” laws exist to prevent criminals from benefiting financially from writing about their crimes. In that spirit, those who enabled, promulgated, and covered up crimes against the American people should not be enriched through the coffers of publishing.

We are writers, editors, journalists, agents, and professionals in multiple forms of publishing. We believe in the power of words and we are tired of the industry we love enriching the monsters among us, and we will do whatever is in our power to stop it.”

Got that? Over 200 “members of the writing and publishing community” are demanding that no one in the Trump administration get any kind of a book deal.

Let’s be crystal clear. This is fascism. Flat out. And every single person who signed onto this letter should be embarrassed.

Make no mistake, the next four years are going to be very, very dangerous for a free press and free speech.

And it isn’t coming just from these people. Loews Hotel, run by the Democrat Tisch family, has canceled a fundraiser to be held by Senator Josh Hawley at their Orlando hotel. Jonathan Tisch is a Biden contributor. Hawley’s book on Big Tech was canceled by Simon and Schuster because Hawley had the nerve to stand on the Senate floor and support the integrity of the American election system and the Constitution. The book was quickly snapped up by Regnery publishing, a conservative house.

Over at Forbes, one Randall Lane, the chief content officer and editor of Forbes, has issued a threat to companies that if they hire any one-time Trump official Forbes will start an investigation of their company. Which is to say, do what I tell you – or else Forbes will ruin your company.  This would be called blackmail.

This is the college cancel culture – which has spent years canceling conservative speakers – gone wild. But it has been around for years.

Pick a conservative media figure and they have been targeted by people like this.

In 2009 I learned there was a move by left-wing churches to get Rush Limbaugh taken off the air by the Federal Communications Commission, charging him with “hate speech.” I wrote up the effort and blessedly lots of rank and file members of those churches made their anger known with church leaders and the move eventually collapsed. Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly were also targeted. I went on Lou’s then-CNN show to discuss. As it turned out, at the very beginning of that show Lou made his displeasure with CNN known on-air – and quit.

In 2012 left-wing groups targeted Rush’s advertisers. The attempt to cancel Rush failed when his audience rallied to him.

They have been after Sean Hannity forever and a day. Not to mention Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham.

Twitter has made a point of de-platforming President Trump and other conservatives.

Now CNN wants to “de-platform” Fox News, Newsmax and One America News.

Make no mistake. This is very dangerous stuff. Over there at Newsmax David Horowitz made a point of saying that America was in “the initial stages to becoming a fascist state.”

Exactly.

And it is being led by people in as disparate places as the writing and publishing community, the Loews hotel chain, CNN, Twitter and so much more.

Make no mistake, the next four years are going to be very, very dangerous for a free press and free speech.

Buckle in.
