‘More Likely Than Not’ China Has Already Stolen Information of American Adults

China Hack

The more we learn about Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s relationships with and unwillingness to denounce China, the more dangerous the potential of a President-Elect Biden becomes. Coronavirus may just be one of many very severe consequences it presents to the world, and particularly Americans. FBI Director Christopher Wray “warned Americans that the Chinese government’s theft of American information is taking place on so large a scale, suspected incidents make up nearly half of his bureau’s counterintelligence cases,” reports Fox News.

Wray spoke at a Washington event where he explained that theft from China is “one of the largest transfers of wealth in human history” and we, the American people, are the victims. China’s Communist Party “uses a diverse range of sophisticated techniques – everything from cyber intrusions to corrupting trusted insiders” and also “outright physical theft,” said Wray.

Recently, information has been circulating that the popular social media platform TikTok is allowing users’ information to be vulnerable to Chinese databases. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said only yesterday that the administration is considering restricting access to the popular app because of concerns “it is potentially being used by the Beijing government as a means to surveil and propagandize people,” reported Fox News.

“Pompeo warned Americans that they should be cautious in using the video app, lest they want their private information ‘in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.” Wray confirmed that China uses social media apps downloaded by Americans “to identify people with access to our government’s sensitive information and then target those people to try to steal it.”

It’s not only technology that is being used as an invasive tool. “A wide range of actors – including not just Chinese intelligence services, but state-owned enterprises, ostensibly private companies, certain kinds of graduate students and researchers, and a whole variety of other actors working on their behalf” noted Wray.

To put things into perspective for voters analyzing who will make the country safest the next four years, Wray gave some numbers. “Of the nearly 5,000 active FBI counterintelligence cases currently underway across the country, almost half are related to China. And at this very moment, China is working to compromise American health care organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions conducting essential COVID-19 research.”

For many, it may be too late altogether. “If you’re an American adult, it is more likely than not that China has stolen your personal data” warned Wray who alluded to Chinese hackers that stole more than 21 million records from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in 2014.
