On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that Democrat President Joe Biden does not support “hardening schools” to protect children from mass shooters.
The news comes the week after a school shooter murdered 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
Jean-Pierre claimed that “the problem is with guns” but did not explain how children would be protected in the event that a prospective school shooter finds a way to access a gun regardless of gun restrictions.
“I know there’s been conversation about hardening schools,” Jean-Pierre said. “That is not something that he believes in. He believes that we should be able to give teachers the resources to be able to do the job that they’re meant to do at schools.”

During the school shooting in Uvalde last week, the shooter entered the school “unobstructed,” according to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Regional Director Victor Escalon.
“So, from the grandmother’s house, to the (ditch), to the school, into the school, he was not confronted by anybody,” Escalon added.
During the press conference, Jean-Pierre went on to say that “background checks” were needed to “make sure that our communities are protected” and to ensure “that our children are not going to school feeling unsafe.”
It should be noted that the Uvalde shooter passed a background check when purchasing the guns he used.
