The Leftist State Media – Not Fox and Hannity – Is The Real Threat To National Security

You can’t make this stuff up. The fact that the Leftist State Media has lost its monopoly to a combination of Fox News, talk radio and conservative websites is just driving its monopolists around the bend.

Over here at Wired is this headline:

Fox News Is Now a Threat to National Security
The network’s furthering of lies from foreign adversaries and flagrant disregard for the truth have gotten downright dangerous

“Monday’s split-screen drama, as the House Judiciary Committee, weighed impeachment charges against President Trump and as the Justice Department’s inspector general released a 476-page report on the FBI’s handling of its 2016 investigation into Trump’s campaign, made one truth of the modern world inescapable: The lies and obfuscations forwarded ad infinitum on Fox News pose a dangerous threat to the national security of the United States.

The facts of both dramas were clear to objective viewers: In the one instance, there’s conclusive and surprisingly consistent evidence that President Trump pushed Ukraine to concoct dirt on a domestic political rival to affect the 2020 presidential election, and in the other, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz found that the FBI was proper to investigate Trump’s dealings with Russia in the 2016 presidential campaign.

But that set of facts is not what anyone who was watching Fox News heard. Instead, Fox spent the night describing an upside-down world where the president’s enemies had spun a web of lies about Trump and Ukraine, even as Horowitz blew open the base corruption that has driven every attack on the president since 2016.

Sean Hannity, who had long trumpeted the forthcoming inspector general report and expected a thorough indictment of the behavior of former FBI director James Comey and other members of the ‘deep state,’ had a simple message for his viewers during Fox’s Monday night prime time: ‘Everything we said, everything we reported, everything we told you was dead-on-center accurate,’ he said. ‘It is all there in black and white, it’s all there.’

Except they weren’t right and it wasn’t there.

…..The idea that Fox News represents a literal threat to our national security, on par with Russia’s Internet Research Agency or China’s Ministry of State Security, may seem like a dramatic overstatement of its own—and I, a paid contributor to its competitor CNN, may appear a biased voice anyway—but this week has made clear that, as we get deeper into the impeachment process and as the 2020 election approaches, Fox News is prepared to destroy America’s democratic traditions if it will help its most important and most dedicated daily viewer.”

(And note: Graff’s story was also written up here at NewsBusters.)

One can only wonder. Did Mr. Graff read the same report? And who is the real threat to “America’s democratic traditions”  – Fox News and Hannity…or the Leftist State Media complex? Here’s one example.

On December 4, 2019 – in the week before the release of the Horowitz IG report – Fox contributor, Hannity regular and longtime journalist John Solomon headlined this on his own John Solomon Reports website.

The 10 most important revelations to expect from the Russia probe FISA report

Number 5 on Solomon’s list was reported this way:

Verification under the Woods Procedures

Solomon – again he is a Fox contributor and a regular Hannity guest as part of Hannity’s ensemble cast that has been doing the serious investigative work on this scandal – wrote this, bold print supplied:

“For years the FBI has been required to certify to the FISA court that all information submitted in a warrant application was “verified” under the so-called Woods Procedures. Lawmakers with access to classified information have said for months they fear a key allegation gleaned from Steele’s dossier – that Carter Page had met with two senior Russian officials close to Putin in summer 2016 – was never verified when it was used as evidence in the FISA warrant. We know from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report that those contacts alleged by Steele never happened. Horowitz should provide valuable insight on this issue.”

Now, with the Horowitz report out, what have we learned? We learn, exactly and precisely as Solomon reported, that Horowitz has indeed been able to “provide valuable insight on this issue” of Wood procedures violations. In fact, there were 51 specific violations of the “Woods Procedures”, with a stunning 9 of the 51 in a category that says, again according to the report:

“Supporting document shows that the factual assertion is inaccurate.”

This is but one example of the superb reporting done by a Fox contributor and a Hannity regular. (And not to put too fine a point on it, it was Fox’s Chris Wallace who grilled James Comey on the now infamous 17 ‘Inaccuracies And Omissions’ in the FBI’s FISA Warrants that targeted Carter Page – making headlines with Comey’s reluctant admission that he had been wrong and Horowitz’s findings right.)

Over here at The Wall Street Journal the WSJ’s James Freeman headlined this:

Obama’s FBI and the Press
The media establishment congratulated itself for getting duped into supporting an abuse of power.

In which Freeman says this, bold print supplied:

“Thanks to a report from the Obama-appointed inspector general of the Justice Department, now everyone knows the truth about 2016. The Obama administration misled the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and wiretapped an American who supported the presidential campaign of the party out of power. One of the many sad lessons is that no American can count on even the most celebrated members of the establishment press to shine a light on such abuses.

By concealing exculpatory evidence, the Obama FBI, directed by James Comey, obtained a warrant from a court intended to counter foreign enemies and managed to turn the surveillance powers of the federal government against a U.S. citizen participating in our domestic politics, Carter Page.

Some of us have been concerned for a while about the abuses of the Obama FBI and their foundational challenge to free elections and a free society. Now it’s nice to see that even one of the New York Times columnists who enjoys tossing casual treason references at President Donald Trump is beginning to see the light.”

Freeman goes on to cite New York Times columnist, she no Trump fan, has finally broken from the Leftist State Media’s protection of ex-FBI Director James Comey to say this:

“The inspector general’s report about the F.B.I.’s Russia investigation offered a hideous Dorian Gray portrait of the once-vaunted law enforcement agency. As Charlie Savage wrote in The Times, the report uncovered “a staggeringly dysfunctional and error-ridden process.” The F.B.I. run by Comey and McCabe was sloppy, deceitful and cherry-picking — relying on nonsense spread by Christopher Steele.”

Which, in essence, is what Fox and Hannity have been detailing, one unearthed fact after another, for almost three years.

Note that line from Freeman again. This one:

“Some of us have been concerned for a while about the abuses of the Obama FBI and their foundational challenge to free elections and a free society.”

And this Freeman line that precedes it:

“One of the many sad lessons is that no American can count on even the most celebrated members of the establishment press to shine a light on such abuses.”

Freeman gets specific, saying:

“Beyond Ms. Dowd, will the Times newsroom and that of the Washington Post now consider how they got this story so wrong for so long?”

Exactly.

In other words? In other words Mr. Graff of Wired and CNN has gotten this story exactly upside down and backwards. If there is a media threat that is “prepared to destroy America’s democratic traditions” it would be not from Fox or Hannity but from the Leftist State Media and component parts like Wired or CNN or The Washington Post or The New York Times who, as Freeman says of the Post and Times, “got this story so wrong for so long.”

The fact is that the anti-Trump hatred from the mainstream media is so irrational that, as Freeman correctly says, “no American can count on even the most celebrated members of the establishment press to shine a light on” the very real abuses from America’s most powerful law enforcement agency.

And that, indeed, is a serious threat to America’s national security.
