Just as President Trump was wrapping up his State of the Union Address, delivering a promise that the best is yet to come, Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave a different one. The Speaker, who was directly behind President Trump and obviously still in the camera’s line of sight, ripped up her printed copy of the President’s speech. Immediately the internet went wild over Pelosi’s paper tearing tantrum.
The morning after the State of the Union, Vice President Mike Pence joined Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” and gave his opinion on the matter. “It felt like it [was planned]” said Pence. Although he admitted “I didn’t see her do it. I found out just a few moments later, and I think it was a new low. I wasn’t sure if she was ripping up the speech or ripping up the Constitution.” Pence went on to say the speaker’s actions “really dishonored the moment and was beneath the dignity of the Joint Session of Congress.”
Speaker Pelosi’s office stood by her actions and did not hold back on vicious attacks of the President’s speech. Pelosi accused the President of lying, and sneered that it wasn’t a State of the Union Address, that it was his own reality show. In reference to President Trump giving his guest, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, a Medal of Freedom, Pelosi said it should have been “done on his own time.”

When reporters asked Pelosi why she ripped up the speech, she insisted it was “the courteous thing to do given the alternatives.” Ironic that she accused the President of holding a reality show when it was Pelosi who was planning and scripting her own show. One cannot make this stuff up. Pelosi was so prepared to make a statement ripping up the President’s speech that she made initial tears in the papers roughly halfway through the SOTU to assure her dramatic performance would go off without a hitch.
Video shows that while President Trump was discussing the cancer diagnosis of Rush Limbaugh before awarding him the Medal of Freedom, Pelosi, presuming all cameras were on the galley, she put her SOTU copy under her desk and made a small tear. When it was time for her grand finale, while cameras were on her and the President as he wrapped his patriotic and uplifting speech, she ripped the entire speech in half with help from the pre-tear spot.
