As gas prices remain near record highs, President Biden’s National Climate Task Force had its 12th meeting. The group was formed through an executive order from Biden in January 2021, and largely aimed to fight the use of fossil fuels. The Task Force was ordered to “identify steps through which the United States can promote ending international financing of carbon-intensive fossil fuel-based energy” and “to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies from the budget request for Fiscal Year 2022 and thereafter.” Additionally, the Task Force was ordered to “consider whether to adjust royalties associated with coal, oil, and gas resources extracted from

As gas prices have reached record highs, President Biden mocked Chevron’s CEO Michael Wirth after Wirth sent the president a letter with advice on how his administration can help reduce gas prices but criticized his attempts to “vilify” the oil industry. “He’s mildly sensitive,” Biden said of Wirth. “I didn’t know they’d get their feelings hurt that quickly. Two teachers and 19 students were killed in the shooting. “What is President Biden’s reaction to Texas authorities saying the police response in Uvalde was an ‘abject failure’ and that the gunman, in theory, could have been stopped within three minutes?” a reporter asked. “The actions that we have seen and the reports

On Tuesday, Chevron’s CEO Michael Wirth sent a letter to President Biden with advice on how his administration can help combat record high gas prices and criticizing Biden’s attempts to “vilify” the oil industry. “In 2021, Chevron produced the highest volume of oil and gas in our 143-year history. In the first quarter of 2022, our U.S. production was 1.2 million barrels per day, up 109,000 barrels per day from the same quarter a year earlier,” Wirth noted, adding that Chevron is “also investing $10 billion to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” Wirth then pointed out that “American oil and gas
