The video appears to show Makiyah Bryant trying to stab another girl when the officer opened fire, presumably saving the life of the unarmed girl.

“We know based on this footage the officer took action to protect another young girl in our community,” Columbus Mayor Andrew explained as the police department released the bodycam video. “We think it’s critically important to share as much information as possible. We’ll continue to share footage and other information as quickly as possible.”

Despite the video indicating that the officer stopped an attempted murder, Black Lives Matter protestors still began to riot in Columbus, Ohio.

“#BLM protesters in Columbus, Ohio shut down the road after a police-involved shooting of a black female armed with a knife. Officers responded to an emergency call where a person said a female was trying to stab them,” tweeted journalist Andy Ngo, who covers domestic terrorism.

“Body camera video released by Columbus Police in Ohio shows #MakiyahBryant attacking another female with a knife before she is shot by police. #BLM have been protesting, calling the shooting racist because Makiyah is black,” Ngo added after the bodycam video was released.

The shooting happened the same day the verdict of the Derek Chauvin case involving the death of George Floyd was announced. After the 10 hours of jury deliberation, Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and third-degree murder.
