Federal agents were outside Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home before sunrise Monday.
They had a warrant.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents began searching the Minnesota Democrat’s Washington, D.C., residence around 6 a.m., a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.
Agents in HSI jackets were seen outside the house in the early-morning dark.
What they’re looking into, according to two sources close to the investigation, is a criminal fraud case tied to the Somali-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork.
That paperwork was filled out by her late father when she was a child.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and HSI led the operation.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is also involved.
“Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
This didn’t come out of nowhere. In mid-September, border czar Tom Homan said Omar was the subject of an ongoing “criminal” investigation.
And HSI isn’t a back-office outfit. It’s the main investigative arm of DHS, the agency that goes after human traffickers, child predators, drug smugglers and cybercriminals, and works the front lines of America’s counterterrorism fight.
Monday morning, it was working a sitting member of Congress.
