Oh my. A Hollywood elitist is upset. Furious, actually.
Barbra Streisand, she of the fabulous voice and the limited political skills, actually thinks that penning an anti-Trump piece in Variety, Hollywood’s bible has any effect other than reinforcing the impression of elitist contempt for her fans – average Americans.
Among other things, Ms. Streisand said this:
“Yes, Mr. Trump, let’s make America great again. But first, get one thing straight: America was great — before you were elected.”
Unknowingly, but of course, Streisand has taken immediate issue with her pal former president Bill Clinton, who said this back in September of 2016, as per The Huffington Post:
“President Bill Clinton on Wednesday said Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” is a racist dog whistle.
‘I’m actually old enough to remember the good old days, and they weren’t all that good in many ways,’ Clinton said at a rally in Orlando. ‘That message where ‘I’ll give you America great again’ is if you’re a white Southerner, you know exactly what it means, don’t you?’”
Oh, wait. Ole Bill forgot this, from his announcement speech for president in 1991. Here’s the headline from The Washington Times:
Bill Clinton vowed to ‘make America great again’ in 1992, now says slogan is racist
Then, of course, there’s New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who runs Streisand’s home state. The Democrat and liberal Governor Cuomo famously had his own view on the topic, in which he parts ways with the singer. The headline from The New York Post said: https://nypost.com/2018/08/15/cuomo-says-america-was-never-that-great/
Cuomo says America ‘was never that great’
So which is it Babs?
Did you support a racist for president in 1992?
If so, are you a racist for saying the same thing as Donald Trump, as President Clinton now suggests?
Or do you just disagree with Governor Cuomo that America “was never that great” to begin with.
This is confusing.
But then so is the rest of your Op-Ed to your fellow rich Hollywood elites.
You say of President Trump:
“He’s purging the government of anyone with any expertise who doesn’t bow down before him.”
Um, where exactly were you when President Clinton fired all those Bush 41 appointees? Or President Obama fired Bush 43 appointees? Hmmm. Quiet as a church mouse is the answer. In fact, all presidents have the right to fire those from a previous administration, and they do. That would be constitutional government 101.
You say: “Trump got rid of our pandemic specialist two years ago and has defunded the Centers for Disease Control because he continues to ignore science.”
Ahhh, the gentleman in question quit voluntarily, he was not fired. And no, the CDC has not been defunded.
You say: “We should have known from the beginning when Trump fired James Comey for refusing to pledge loyalty to him as if he were a king.”
Question? Where were you when Democrats and the liberal media said they no longer had confidence in the FBI Director and were demanding that Comey be fired? Among the names saying Comey had to go were: Senator Chuck Schumer, Rep. Jerry Nadler, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, ex-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Democratic National Committee, ex-Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta and…well, I could go on and on.
In fact, only this week, when James Comey endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, the Biden campaign issued this snarky statement about the man you defend:
“Yes, customer service? I just received a package that I very much did not order. How can I return it, free of charge?”
I could go on – and on and on. But in short, Ms. Streisand? While your wildly breathtaking ignorance of the facts, not to mention vivid hypocrisy, will doubtless set your fellow Hollywood elites to oohing and cooing, you have confirmed for millions of Americans exactly why they support the president.
You are the personification of the elitist Hollywood chapter of The Swamp. Sending a message to Americans in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin exactly why they elected Donald Trump in the first place, and why they want to Make America Great Again.
Or, put it in a more familiar way to you, why they just want to be The Way They Were.
