On Friday, a Texas National Guardsman drowned in the Rio Grande River while attempting to rescue migrants in the water. “Multiple sources tell me a Texas National Guard soldier has just drowned in the Rio Grande here in Eagle Pass while trying to save migrants in the water. Florida Issues Guidance Aiming At Barring Children From Gender Reassignment Surgery

On Wednesday, the Florida Health Department issued guidance aimed at barring doctors from attempting to treat gender dysphoria in children with gender reassignment surgery, puberty blockers, and other treatment options that have irreversible effects. “Systematic reviews on hormonal treatment for young people show a trend of low-quality evidence, small sample sizes, and medium to high risk of bias,” a press release from the Florida Health Department said. “A paper published in the International Review of Psychiatry states that 80% of those seeking clinical care will lose their desire to identify with the nonbirth sex.” The press release noted that one review concludes

Florida Senate Passes Bill Ending Disney’s Tax Privilege

On Wednesday, the Florida Senate passed a bill that eliminates a special taxing district that has allowed Walt Disney Co. to govern the land where its theme park is located. “The measure potentially delivers a blow to the company’s operations in the state,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “The special district, created in 1967 and known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, exempts Disney from a host of regulations and certain taxes and fees related to emergency services and road maintenance.
