Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly appointed tenant advocate, Cea Weaver, was overcome with emotion Wednesday as she faced mounting scrutiny over her past remarks about homeownership and gentrification. According to the New York Post, the 37-year-old activist, long known for her outspoken progressive housing views, briefly appeared outside her Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment around 9 a.m. before retreating indoors after reporters questioned her about a $1.6 million property owned by her mother in Nashville, Tennessee. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced U.S. actions against two sanctioned “ghost fleet” tankers on Wednesday — moves the administration says are designed to choke off illicit Venezuelan oil trade and its downstream cash. In the North Atlantic, the vessel formerly known as Bella 1—now reported as Marinera after reflagging and renaming—was seized near Iceland after a pursuit that stretched for more than two weeks, according to U.S. officials and multiple reports. In a separate operation, U.S. officials said a second ship, M/T Sophia, was intercepted in international waters in the Caribbean and is being escorted to the United States “for

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in her vehicle during an immigration enforcement operation in southeast Minneapolis on Wednesday. The woman was obstructing an ICE operation and drove her vehicle at an officer. The shooting sparked immediate protests and sharp rebukes from city officials who described the action as “reckless” while federal authorities defended it as self-defense against an attempted vehicular assault. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem characterized the incident as “an act of domestic terrorism,” alleging the woman “attempted to run them over and rammed them with her vehicle” after blocking a roadway.

The Boston case of two Haitian immigrants accused of orchestrating a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme involving food assistance benefits, including funds intended for children in need in Haiti, has gained national attention. According to Breitbart, in late December, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed food stamp fraud charges against 74-year-old Antonio Bonheur, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Haiti, and 21-year-old Saul Alisme, a Haitian immigrant who received a Social Security card in November 2024.The indictment alleges that Bonheur owned Jesula Variety Store and Alisme owned Saul Mache Mixe Store, both of which took part in SNAP transactions.
