There are stories that land with the weight of a thud. Not because they surprise us, but because they confirm something we already sensed in the political atmosphere. This is one of them. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff was hauled into federal court Wednesday, hit with a 23-count indictment accusing her of plotting to steal $225,000 and funnel it to a friend, according to the Justice Department. Dana Williamson, 53, now stands accused of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, defrauding the United States, obstructing justice, filing false tax returns, and lying to investigators. It is

The U.S. Department of Transportation revealed Wednesday that California has been illegally issuing commercial driver’s licenses to thousands of foreign-born, non-domiciled applicants — putting eighteen-wheelers in the hands of “dangerous foreign drivers,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The department’s audit found that in California, more than a quarter of the non-domiciled CDLs reviewed were improperly issued. Duffy accused the state of “issuing tens of thousands of these licenses to non-citizens,” calling it a loophole that had grown into a national safety risk. “After weeks of claiming they did nothing wrong, Gavin Newsom and California have been caught red-handed,” Duffy said.

Asked about a clause requiring him to rehire federal workers dismissed during the shutdown, Trump waved it off. “I’ll abide by the deal. The deal is very good,” he said. The agreement gives Democrats what they wanted: a vote on extending Affordable Care

President Donald Trump stood in the Cabinet Room of the White House on Friday, flanked by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and delivered his MAGA wishlist with a crisp urgency that left little doubt where his head is these days: The Senate filibuster. “You know the Democrats are going to [get rid of the filibuster]. So why aren’t we doing it? I think only a foolish person would be against that,” he declared. “I am totally in favor of terminating the filibuster and we would be back to work within ten minutes of that vote taking place,” he added.
