November 21, 2025
The Hill
House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House sent a message this week, and it came in bold type. Lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning socialism — a rebuke not only of ideology, but of its recent rise in American politics. The vote was 285–98, with 86 Democrats crossing the aisle. Two members voted present. Even House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who endorsed Zohran Mamdani days before his election, voted yes. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL), referenced the past: Castro’s Cuba, Mao’s China, Maduro’s Venezuela — systems marked by famine, oppression, and mass murder. Its language was plain: “Resolved by the House of

Democratic lawmakers released a video this week addressed directly to service members, urging them to “refuse illegal orders” and defend the Constitution against threats they say may come from within. …a move many say is flirting with insurrection. Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn sounded genuinely alarmed. On Fox News, she said the message could only come from one place — a deep, unshakable contempt for Donald Trump. “They have stage four Trump Derangement Syndrome,” she said. “It is inconceivable that you would have elected officials… saying to uniform members of the military… that they would defy the orders that they have
