On Wednesday night, federal agents reportedly raided the home of Nicholas John Roske, the man who allegedly planned to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
“The FBI busted down the front door of Roske’s family home in Simi Valley Wednesday night after obtaining a federal search warrant, seizing several boxes worth of evidence,” CBS Los Angeles reported. “Roske was taken into custody and seized his backpack and suitcase, which authorities say contained a black tactical chest rig, tactical knife, a Glock 17 pistol with two magazines and ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, screwdriver, nail punch, crowbar, pistol light, duct tape, hiking boots with padding on the outside of the soles, and other items.”
According to FBI special agent Ian Montijo, Roske intended to kill Kavanaugh and then commit suicide. Roske stated that he was motivated by the recent leak Supreme Court’s majority opinion intending to overturn Roe v. Wade and future Second Amendment decisions.
“Roske then told the detective that he was upset about the leak of a recent Supreme Court draft decision regarding the right to abortion as well as the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas,” Montijo wrote in the criminal complaint. “Roske indicated that the Justice that he intended to kill would side with Second Amendment decisions that would loosen gun control laws.”
“Roske stated that he began thinking about how to give his life a purpose and decided that he would kill the Supreme Court Justice after finding the Justice’s Montgomery County address on the Internet. Roske further indicated that he had purchased the Glock pistol and the other items for the purpose of breaking into the Justice’s residence and killing the Justice as well as himself,” Montijo added.
Roske was charged with “Attempts to kidnap or murder, or threatens to assault, kidnap or murder a United States Judge, to wit: a current Justice of the United States Supreme Court.” If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
