Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina is a Republican, and he is African American. In these tumultuous times of hatred and rampant racism, he has been victimized. Dozens of venomous voice mails have been left on his office phone. He has been called the n-word in the profanity-laced messages.
The racist culprits? “Liberal Democrats,” said Scott. Speaking on Fox News’ “The Story” Scott discussed the messages with host Martha MacCallum. “We had dozens – more than a dozen of them” a few of which he played for his Republican colleagues. “I only played two of them, which were the most racially offensive comments from liberals in this country,” said Scott.
“They called to say that I was in their crosshairs. It was so profanity-laced, you can’t play five seconds of those videos on your show because there are that many f-bombs, the n-word” he added. The threatening messages caused “a stir in my office, threatening my life” said Scott. “It is the most audacious, repugnant behavior I’ve seen in a very long time.”
Senator Scott also discussed the difficulty in working with Democrats who blocked his ability to debate his police reform bill last week. “I had multiple conversations with Democrats” including Senators and former presidential candidates Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) “about what they saw that needed to be changed in the bill.” “Now, I offered them…20 amendments to do the changing. They still walked away from the opportunity.”
Many Democrats explained their dissatisfaction that Scott had not added a ban on chokeholds to his reform bill. “I would certainly add to my legislation [a ban on] carotid [chokeholds]…but if that is our disagreement, that’s solved in 30 seconds,” said Scott. Democrats have a history of doing nothing only to maintain a façade that they want to do more, such as when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez voted against the stimulus bill because it “wasn’t enough.” Democrats get away with doing absolutely nothing simply because they say they want to do everything. But words are cheap and we the people suffer.
