“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris – a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants – as my running mate,” Biden announced on his Twitter account.
“I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person,” said Biden in a statement. Although Harris was placed on the shortlist for potential vice president picks, some commentators did not believe she would be chosen. Although she is a Black female, with a name recognition due to her time as California’s Senator and her own presidential run, she and Biden often did not play nice in the sandbox as competitors.
During the democratic primary debates, Harris and Biden attacked each other like wolves. “Harris slammed Biden for working segregationist senators in the past, and Biden said Harris had mischaracterized his record,” reported National Review.

Joe Biden has almost weekly made headline news for blatantly racist comments, so it’s no wonder he chose the very woman who has attacked his record on race. However, in an attempt to show there are no “personal” hurt feelings, Biden followed up his tweet on choosing Harris with a tweet about his son: “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
