Associated Press Fact-Checks Michelle Obama: ‘Cages’ Were ‘Built During the Obama-Biden Administration’

In what many are hailing as a snooze-fest, the first night of the Democratic National Convention came out swinging against Trump. Michelle Obama was the celebrity appearance of the night, essentially reminding everyone how great her husband’s presidency was. Except that it wasn’t, and not even Michelle’s speechwriters cared to make sure she was factually accurate.

The Associated Press decided to “fact-check” Michelle’s aggressive accusations against Trump about him ripping families apart at the border and keeping children in cages. It was clever on Michelle’s part to discuss, as it has arguably been the topic that has bonded Democrats the most these past few years. Well, that and impeaching Trump over a phone call.

What Michelle failed to mention, and Democrats don’t actually care enough about the issue to know the truth, is that these “cages” were not only used, but built-in her husband’s administration. “Michelle Obama assailed President Donald Trump on Monday for ripping migrant children from their parents and throwing them into cages, picking up on a frequent and distorted point made widely by Democrats” stated the Associated Press.

“But what she did not say is that the very same ‘cages’ were built and used in her husband’s administration, for the same purpose of holding migrant kids temporarily” adds the article. The Associated Press responds to Michelle’s comment that Americans “watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages” with “THE FACTS.” “The reference to cages is misleading and a matter that Democrats have persistently distorted” asserts the AP.

“Trump used facilities that were built during the Obama-Biden administration to house children at the border. They are chain-link enclosures inside border facilities where migrants were temporarily housed, separated by sex and age” explains the AP. The Associated Press also hits upon the origins that sparked the Democrats’ false narrative.

“At the height of the controversy over Trump’s zero-tolerance policy at the border, photos that circulated online of children in the enclosures generated great anger” notes the AP. While that is true, here’s the harsh reality for the bleeding liberals. “But those photos – by the Associated Press – were taken in 2014 and depicted some of the thousands of unaccompanied children held by President Barack Obama.”

Some Democrats and activists deleted their tweets of the photos when the error came to light, but it did not stop anyone from utilizing the “cages” rhetoric to suggest Trump’s cruelty.
