A Capitol police officer was killed on Friday after a suspect rammed into them with their car, then proceeded to charge at officers while wielding a knife before being fatally shot by Capitol police.
“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Officer William ‘Billy’ Evans this afternoon from injuries he sustained following an attack at the North Barricade by a lone assailant,” Acting Capitol Police Department Chief Yogananda Pittman said in a statement. “Officer Evans had been a member of the United States Capitol Police for 18 years. He began his USCP service on March 7, 2003, and was a member of the Capitol Division’s First Responder’s Unit. Please keep Officer Evans and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
The Capitol Police Department released a statement explaining the details about the attack.
“Just after 1pm, a man in a blue sedan rammed his vehicle into the North Barricade at the U.S. Capitol, striking 2 USCP officers,” the statement said. “The Department immediately locked down the Capitol Campus. The man exited the vehicle with a knife and ran toward our officers. At least one officer, drew their weapon and shot the suspect. One USCP officer was transported by a USCP cruiser to the hospital. The second USCP officer was transported by DC Fire and EMS. The suspect was also transported by DC Fire and EMS to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:30pm.”

According to The New York Post, the suspect is “a Nation of Islam devotee” named Noah Green. The New York Post reported, “Noah Green, 25, who may have been living in Virginia, described himself as a ‘Follower of Farrakhan’ on his Facebook page, in reference to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.”
Before his Facebook account was taken down, The New York Post identified posts by Green from mid-March, which he signed with the name “Brother Noah X.”
“I was on the right track and everything I had planned was coming into existence. It required long hours, lots of studying, and exercise to keep me balanced while experiencing an array of concerning symptoms along the path (I believe to be side effects of drugs I was intaking unknowingly),” he wrote on March 17th, according to The Post. “However, the path has been thwarted, as Allah (God) has chosen me for other things. Throughout life I have set goals, attained them, set higher ones, and then been required to sacrifice those things.”
