Some Florida parents have given up on any attempt to keep up a facade that homeschooling is going smoothly. Likely they are not alone. According to KATV, a Boca Raton Elementary teacher complained to the station earlier this week about parents’ inappropriate behavior caught on their children’s online classes. “Parents, please make sure that you have on proper clothing when you are walking behind your child’s computer because we’ve seen them in their drawers, their bras, and everything else,” said teacher Edith Pride.
That’s not all pride has seen. “She and other educators said they’ve seen everything from parents puffing giant joints to moms with exposed ankle monitors during virtual lessons, which began in the district two weeks,” writes the New York Post. “Parents, when you are helping your children at their computer, please do not appear with big joints in your hands and cigarettes” Pride reprimanded. “Those joints be as big as cigars. Oh yeah, we’ve seen it all” Pride added.
This could be the single best case in favor of reopening schools. At least at school children will not learn how to roll joints the size of cigars. Well, hopefully. “I had a father, no shirt drinking a beer at 11:45 in the morning,” another teacher said. “I did have a parent who sat on the couch and we could see an ankle monitor on her leg” the teacher added, who chose to remain anonymous.
“[Students] do see other things that they’ve probably never seen before, so I know that is a challenge” an additional teacher expressed. The New York Post reported on a spokesman for the school district who delicately reminded parents all classes are recorded, “but didn’t comment further.” Not much to say; teachers and schools are in position for a very specific and beneficial reason. Sadly, not all children have access to the same level of standards for learning in their home environments.
