Noem Alerts Nation to Spike in Vehicle Attacks on Federal Officers

The woman fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday had been “stalking and impeding” federal officers throughout the day, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, the New York Post reports. Renee Nicole Good, 37, was killed after allegedly trying to ram her car into an ICE vehicle during a heated protest in a Minneapolis neighborhood.

At a Wednesday evening press conference, Noem said Good had been obstructing ICE operations leading up to the fatal encounter. She described how an ICE vehicle had become stuck in snow while surrounded by “a mob of agitators that were harassing them all day,” before Good allegedly approached and tried to block agents from leaving. Officers identified the driver as Good and ordered her to move.

Noem said Good then opted to “weaponize her vehicle” in an attempt to injure or kill federal officers, calling the act “domestic terrorism.” She added notably that it was one of three such attacks reported in Minneapolis that day.

Both Noem and President Trump confirmed that the ICE agent who shot Good was injured and treated at a hospital before being released. The secretary said the officer, a veteran of similar confrontations, had previously been dragged by a protester during another vehicle attack last June.

But Noem expressed the greatest alarm over what she described as a disturbing nationwide trend referencing more than 100 vehicle-ramming attempts against federal law enforcement in recent weeks. She suggested the attacks were coordinated, stating individuals were being trained to use their vehicles to obstruct operations and endanger officers.

“It’s clear that it’s being coordinated. People are being trained and told how to use their vehicles to impede law enforcement operations, and then to run over anybody who gets in their way, while they go out there and try to disrupt peace and public safety. Americans deserve better,” Noem said.

Noem added that she has asked the Justice Department to treat anti-ICE vehicle attacks as acts of domestic terrorism, The Post reports.

According to The Federalist, cars are sometimes used as weapons by extremist actors to maximize casualties and cause chaos. This incident follows a reported surge in threats and violence toward ICE officers, which critics attribute to heightened demonization in political and media discourse. Federalist writer Breccan F. Thies notes, “The attack comes after a 1,300 percent jump in attacks against ICE officers and an 8,000 percent surge in death threats, according to McLaughlin, almost certainly driven by demonization from Democrats and the media.”

President Trump also described the dangerous circumstances facing federal agents stating, “The reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis,” according to the outlet.
