Over at the left-wing Daily Beast, there is this totally un-ironic headline:
Fox News Staffers Erupt Over Network’s Racism: Bosses ‘Created a White Supremacist Cell’
The piece attacks Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham in the usual terms left-wingers always project on conservatives, taking the Left’s 200-plus year decidedly vivid history of racism as expressed through the Democratic Party and projecting it onto those who repeatedly stand up in opposition to this decidedly virulent racism.
The irony the Daily Beast…ahhhh…misses? At the bottom of the story, there is a list of the five reporters who wrote the Fox story. With pictures. And every one of the five pictures of the five..um…guys…is appearing to show, yes indeed, a white guy. Yes, you read that right. Five white guys lined up to attack a woman, and they apparently couldn’t find an available reporter-of-color (to borrow the leftist lingo) to report on the other sections of the story.
Ya can’t make this up.
To use the standards that are held forth in this article? Is there no “diversity” at the DB?
This article is a classic example of the psyche that is running all manner of liberal media outlets, as that much-reported Bari Weiss resignation letter from The New York Times illustrated. Among other things Weiss said this, bold print for emphasis supplied:
“My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I’m “writing about the Jews again.” Several colleagues perceived to be friendly with me were badgered by coworkers. My work and my character are openly demeaned on company-wide Slack channels where masthead editors regularly weigh in. There, some coworkers insist I need to be rooted out if this company is to be a truly “inclusive” one, while others post ax emojis next to my name. Still, other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with the appropriate action. They never are.”
Which is another way of saying that this Daily Beast article is a classic product of the mindset Bari Weiss discussed. Over there at The New York Post, John Podhoretz of Commentary nailed it exactly in a column on Weiss. Said John, bold print supplied:
“She also described an atmosphere of pervasive ideological intimidation and conformity that finally made commissioning diverse viewpoints and writing and thinking freely — essential to opinion journalism — all but impossible.
So Weiss left. But again, it wasn’t ultimately about her. The mob’s real targets are twofold.
First, the mob yearns to scare into submission everyone in a position of authority at the Times and any other liberal institution in America who might think it wise to hire someone like Bari Weiss — someone who draws outside the ideological lines and brings a fresh perspective.
….Which brings us to the mob’s second object: The wokesters want to scare everyone who might emulate Bari Weiss in the future. And this, of course, is the real purpose of cancel culture. It is less about silencing the voice who is so annoying to the cancelers in the present — and far more about silencing the perspective that voice represents in the future.
This goes far beyond The New York Times. It is an effort pervading every major cultural institution in America.”
Podhoretz is exactly right. This Daily Beast article isn’t really about Tucker and Laura. It is really about the fact that both of them, and Hannity, not to mention others in conservative media beyond Fox, not only do not share the perspective of the Woke Left – they vigorously challenge it. And therefore they must be targeted because they stand convicted of what Weiss calls “Wrongthink.” Just as Bari Weiss – she who is a moderate and Jewish – was painted as a racist and Nazi, so too will Tucker and Laura and anyone who has a different view from the Woke crowd be targeted.
As I have said before, this is the New American Fascism. And the Daily Beast article, penned by five white guys in violation of wokeness rules, can get away with this precisely because, as Weiss says, it goes along with the woke “narrative.” If it had been written instead that Tucker and Laura and Hannity and Fox News were defiant champions of free speech and a colorblind America, that they were fearless defenders of Truth, Justice and the American Way (to borrow an old Superman description) – this piece would never have seen daylight either at the Daily Beast or any liberal outlet.
And if a piece so proclaiming any of that had somehow slipped through an editorial crack at the Daily Beast or any other “mainstream” cable or print outlet, in this atmosphere you can take it to the bank that whoever gave it the editorial green light, not to mention the writer or writers themselves, would be out of a job.
Pronto.
