The article, ‘I’m Urging You Not to Run’: How Schumer Pushed Biden to Drop Out, reveals what Schumer was doing behind the scenes — and conversations he had with Biden — as the ailing president was unraveling before the eyes of every American.

From The New York Times:

If there were a secret ballot among Democratic senators, Mr. Schumer would tell the president, no more than five would say he should continue running. Mr. Biden’s own pollsters assessed that he had about a 5 percent chance of prevailing against Donald J. Trump, Mr. Schumer would tell him — information that was apparently news to the president. And if the president refused to step aside, the senator would argue, the consequences for Democrats and Mr. Biden’s own legacy after a half-century of public service would be catastrophic.

“If you run and you lose to Trump, and we lose the Senate, and we don’t get back the House, that 50 years of amazing, beautiful work goes out the window,” Schumer told Biden according to NYT. “But worse — you go down in American history as one of the darkest figures.”

“If I were you,” Schumer said, “I wouldn’t run, and I’m urging you not to run.”

After Biden’s disastrous debate performance, Schumer spoke directly with donors, telling them to wait and see what Biden would do.

“Do not be public,” Schumer said. “That will get his back up, and you’ve got to let the dust settle. But if you can, call whoever you know in the campaign. Call the White House.”

Despite The Times’ reporting that Schumer had intimate knowledge of Biden’s decline, the New York Senator appeared on Meet The Press earlier this month and denied misleading the American public about Biden’s mental decline.

“What do you say to Americans who say you and other top Democrats misled them about President Biden’s mental acuity?” host Kristen Welker asked Schumer.

“Look, we didn’t,” Schumer said, adding that “We should all salute [Biden].”
