Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has released a video explaining the findings of an investigation into the Chinese origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“[China] started closing schools in November of 2019, when they claim the first cases weren’t until December,” Rubio said. “The Chinese Communist Party is very sensitive to their global image. The idea that their experimentation led to the creation of a virus that has basically turned the world upside down is something they’ll never be able to admit… I believe there is no limit to what they are willing to do to make sure the full story is never known.”
“One of the things we know they were for sure doing in Wuhan is gain-of-function. We’ve heard a lot about this but what it basically means is you take a naturally occurring virus that you find in nature and you reverse engineer it and mess with it to make it contagious in humans. It might be a virus in an animal that might not be infectious in humans. But you change it in a laboratory and make it infectious in humans. The reason why you do that is to try to predict how a virus that today is only found in animals could evolve into one that could be dangerous in humans. You try to predict it, you try to invent it yourself, and once you invented it you try to find a cure for it. The problem is, once you invent it, someone might get infected,” Rubio said.
“They were doing things no other lab in the world would dare do because they were dangerous, risky, and unsafe. But in China, they were doing it. They want to become the world’s dominant power in every field, and one of those is biomedicine. To do that, they have to cut corners and make decisions about what they’re going to prioritize: progress or safety,” Rubio continued. “By Summer 2019, the documents show us that something was happening. The alarm was being rung about biosecurity issues, real concern about biosafety. You start to see an increasing amount of agitation and concern on the part of various researchers and people in charge of them… about some biosafety event that had happened or was about to happen and we’ll never know exactly for sure what was happening in Summer 2019, but it is another piece of that circumstantial evidence that starts to fill out the puzzle.”
“We know the official timeline in China says the first cases of Covid-19 occurred in December, but by November 2019 they are already closing schools,” Rubio added. “Something is already happening… They start closing schools in November of 2019 when they claim the first cases weren’t until December,” Rubio added. “The Chinese Communist Party is very sensitive to their global image. The idea that their experimentation led to the creation of a virus that has basically turned the world upside down is something they’ll never be able to admit. It could threaten their hold on power internally but it would most certainly change the world’s perception of them. I believe there is no limit to what they are willing to do to make sure the full story is never known.”
“I’m not sure we’ll ever know the full story but we have enough pieces of the puzzle to really change the entire narrative. Some were saying in the past that it might have been naturally occurring, 50% like, and a lab leak was also 50% likely, I think this additional circumstantial evidence that has been gathered… weigh heavily those odds toward something bad happening in one of those laboratories,” he concluded. “Hopefully people will take this work and build upon it but these are troubling revelations.”
