This week, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned that Democrats’ plan to “reform” the Supreme Court was actually code for their intention to “destroy” it because it is the only branch of government that the left does not control.
Cruz made his comments during his most recent episode of “Verdict” with co-host Ben Ferguson while talking about President Biden’s Oval Office address on Wednesday.
In his speech, Biden said that for the remainder of his time in office, he would “call for Supreme Court reform because this is critical to our democracy—Supreme Court reform.”
Cruz responded to Biden’s remarks by saying, “Well, and understand by the word reform, he means destroy the Supreme Court. What he wants to do is utterly politicize it.”
Cruz then noted how when former President Franklin Roosevelt had a supermajority in the House and Senate and attempted to pack the Supreme Court with far-left judges, even Democrats at that time worked to stop him from doing so because they understood that the court should be independent and “focused on the Constitution and upholding the rule of law” because “it is critical to our liberty of this country.”
“And so, the Democrats, his own party told FDR ‘no’,” Cruz said. “What has changed? There are no Democrats willing to stand up to the radicals now.”
“If Kamala Harris, is the President, God forbid, and if Democrats win the House, and if they gain just one seat in the Senate, they have right now 51 Democrats, if they gain one seat, they will have the votes to end the filibuster,” he continued. “And so, if you end the filibuster, they can do it with just 50 votes in the Senate. They will do that because the Supreme Court is the one institution of government they do not control right now, and they’re willing to burn it to the ground. This is a radical agenda. And it’s who Biden and Harris are.”
