San Diego Virtual Teachers Volunteering to Teach Migrants with high COVID Rates In Person

California schools and teachers’ unions have been adamant about not going back to in-class learning, citing coronavirus fears and safety as their defense. Now, two liberal ideologies are converging and the result is utter hypocrisy. An exclusive Fox News report shows “unaccompanied child migrants housed at the San Diego Convention Center have an alarmingly high COVID-19 infections rate.” While those statistics are not surprising, what is shocking is that “local teachers will be providing them in-person instruction before their own students.”

Supervisor Jim Desmond tweeted, “The San Diego County Board of Education will be sending teachers for in-person learning for the migrant children at the convention center. It’s great there’s in-person learning for them, I wish every child in San Diego County was allowed the same opportunity.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said at least 82 of 700 unaccompanied girls transferred to the Convention Center have already tested positive for coronavirus. Fox News reports all of the girls had been tested before being transported to the temporary facility, but 23 girls tested positive after their arrival and had to be moved to a different floor from the negative-testing population.

HHS says children who did not test positive will continue to be tested every three days. 59 girls tested positive before transport and “were being housed separately and anyone injured or ill was being treated on-site by staff from Rady’s Children’s Hospital, although children with serious illnesses are not taken to the facility to begin with and go right to a hospital.”

A San Diego Unified School District spokeswoman said teachers were giving up their vacations to volunteer at the convention center. Concerns about the facility’s high coronavirus rate were not addressed. “Some of our educators have volunteered to give up their vacation time…to help hundreds of teenage girls who are sheltering in our city, away from their families and in some cases thousands of miles from home,” the spokeswoman told Fox News.
