“This is not our war.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio made it clear to reporters — and the world — on Friday that the U.S. will “move on” from Russian-Ukrainian peace talks if the stall continues.
Rubio stressed that the conflict is not America’s war, and President Trump has spent nearly 90 days in office having high-level discussions to bring the conflict to an end.
“We are now reaching a point where we need to decide whether this is even possible or not,” Rubio told reporters Friday while departing from negotiations with his counterparts in Paris. “Because if it’s not, then I think we’re just going to move on.”
“It’s not our war. We have other priorities to focus on,” he added, suggesting the U.S. would decide if continued talks were “doable” in a “matter of days.”
“The Ukraine war is a terrible thing but it’s not our war…The president has spent 87 days at the highest level of his government, repeatedly taking efforts to bring this war to an end. We are now reaching a point where we need to decide and determine whether this is even possible or not, which is why we‘re engaging both sides,” Rubio added.
