Jonathan Lopez, an Umatilla County commissioner candidate in Oregon received an anonymous, hate-filled racist letter in his mailbox. Vicious comments suggesting “Mexicans” were “not welcome here” and that “America is for the God-fearing, pro-gun, pro-life humans who refuse to be controlled by the government.” Lopez chose to take the moral high road saying he had “no resentment for whomever wrote this.” Likely Lopez was quick to forgive “whomever” because he wrote the letter to himself.

On Monday, Police Chief Jason Edmiston said Lopez confessed to writing the letter himself and the case would now be headed to the County District Attorney’s office “for review for initiating a false report, a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon” reported the East Oregonian. According to Lopez, things “just kind of spiraled out” of control after he posted a photo of the typed letter to Facebook where he also announced his lack of “resentment.”
“I never meant to file a report, it just kind of spiraled out” and he “never meant to mislead” the public claimed Lopez. In fact, mislead the public is exactly what he intended to do as he told an East Oregonian reporter that he found the anonymous “letter in his mailbox when he got home” he also “confirmed that he had told a police officer the same story” according to the East Oregonian.
Lopez initially insisted the whole thing was a big misunderstanding and he was simply trying to “use the letter as an example of the type of racism people experience, but often don’t speak out about publicly” reported the Oregon paper. Police Chief Edmiston stated in an email, “from the onset, this alleged incident has been thoroughly investigated. Our investigation has shown that Mr. Lopez wrote the letter himself and made false statements to the police and on social media.” However, the “end result is a verbal and written admission by Mr. Lopez that the letter was fabricated.”
Lopez is just one of the latest examples of liberal opportunists taking advantage of the hypersensitive and politically correct environment. As Jussie Smollett knows, there’s no better way to get the public on your side than to be the victim of a hate crime.
