On Wednesday night, Democrat Massachusetts state officials boasted about the state’s reception of the 50 Venezuelan illegal immigrants sent to the affluent leftist area of Martha’s Vineyard by Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. By Friday morning, the state had arranged for the removal of the 50 illegal immigrants, sending them to a military base on Cape Cod.
“Our island jumped into action putting together 50 beds, giving everyone a good meal, providing a play area for the children, making sure people have the healthcare and support they need. We are a community that comes together to support immigrants,” Democrat State Rep. Dylan Fernandes tweeted.

On Friday morning, busses arrived in Edgartown, Massachusetts, to ship the illegal immigrants to a ferry that will take them to a military base on Cape Cod.

Lisa Belcastro, a local resident who manages the shelter at the island’s St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where the illegal immigrants slept for their two-night stay, claimed the illegal immigrants would have to be removed from the island because they “don’t have housing for 50 more people.”
“We certainly don’t have housing, we’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island,” Belcastro said. “We don’t have housing for 50 more people.”
However, Federalist Editor Elle Purnell noted a dozen vacation homes “with plenty of room” that are available to house the 50 illegal immigrants. Purnell wrote, “surely a few dozen extra people won’t be too much of a strain on the Massachusetts island that sees its population grow by 750 percent during peak tourism season.”
On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who sent the illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, addressed the complaints about the minor increase in illegal immigrants in Democrat-run sanctuary cities – meaning cities that protect illegal immigrants from deportation – saying these Democrats’ “virtue-signaling is a fraud.”
“All of those people in D.C. and New York were beating their chests when Trump was president, saying they were so proud to be sanctuary jurisdictions, saying how bad it was to have a secure border,” DeSantis noted. “The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they all of a sudden go berserk and they’re so upset that this is happening. It just shows you their virtue-signaling is a fraud.”
