This Friday, the Oval Office will host an unlikely pairing: President Trump and incoming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Both men confirmed the meeting, with Trump announcing it briskly on TRUTH Social:
“Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!”
Mamdani acknowledged their differences but said the city’s needs come first. “I intend to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any agenda that benefits New Yorkers,” he said. “If an agenda hurts New Yorkers, I will also be the first to say something.”
He added that voters chose both men for the same reason: they wanted someone to take on the cost-of-living crisis that feels heavier each month. A city that works hard wants leaders who do the same.

Trump has not been shy about his opinions. After Mamdani’s Election Day win, he called him a “Communist Lunatic.” He even warned that federal funding could be on the line if Mamdani prevailed. But after the votes were tallied, he shifted his tone—slightly—saying he would “help them a little bit.”
