Elder made his announcement during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“You almost have to laugh at it, it is so ridiculous,” Elder said. “The actual quote [the media said about me] was ‘Larry Elder is the black face of white supremacy.’ And the subheadline was, ‘You’ve been warned.’ By the way, one other L.A. Times columnist referred to my views as white-supremacist. Why? Because I am pro-life, because I don’t buy the notion that America is systemically racist, because I want secure borders, because I want us to be energy independent… because I know that our urban schools are a disaster. For all those reasons, I was called the black face of white supremacy.”

“My announcement is I am announcing I am running for president,” he continued. “Because my father was a World War Two vet, he served on the island of Guam… I feel I have a moral, religious, and patriotic duty to give back.”

Elder went on to say that the idea that America is “systemically racist” is “a lie.”

“It isn’t just a lie, it is having real consequences… The people who are harmed by that are the very black and brown people the left claims they care about,” he said.
