On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris decided to praise President Biden for his decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan – a process that has been a disaster.

Harris tweeted, “[President Biden] made a commitment to the American people when he ran for president that he would bring America’s military involvement in Afghanistan to an end. It’s the right decision.”

Harris’s comments came the same day as a report that the United States military would be leaving 75,000 vehicles, 600,000 weapons and 208 aircraft in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

As a result of Biden’s decision, thousands of Americans are stranded in Afghanistan, while the Taliban has been blocking roads to the airport and preventing their evacuation.

“On Tuesday night, the Taliban blocked roads to the airport, shooting in the air to disperse crowds, according to witnesses,” the Wall Street Journal reported. “An Afghan who worked for a Western organization and tried to reach the airport said he had been told by the Taliban fighters manning the checkpoint that they are under orders to only let through convoys organized by foreign embassies. Individuals, even if holding valid travel documents, were being turned away.”

Tens of thousands of Afghans who helped the United States are similarly stranded in the country. The Wall Street Journal reported, “countless Afghans who thought the U.S. would protect them after having assisted the U.S.-led coalition forces in the past two decades are now realizing that they will most likely be left behind to face Taliban wrath alone.”

Private charities and groups have been working to evacuate U.S. citizens and allies, trying to save the victims of the Biden administration’s failure.

A leader of a private group working to increase evacuations told NBC News, “There’s been an outpouring. It’s inspiring, but on the other hand, it is a damning reflection on the failure of the U.S. that private citizens are having to step in to do what the government with all its billions and trillions has failed to do.”
