On Wednesday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will no longer penalize users for questioning scientific claims that are promoted by the media.
The news comes shortly after the latest installment of the “Twitter Files” showed how the U.S. government “pressured Twitter and other social media platforms to elevate certain content and suppress other content about Covid-19,” according to independent writer David Zweig, who was reporting on behalf of Bari Weiss’s publication, The Free Press.
“Internal files at Twitter that I viewed while on assignment for @thefp showed that both the Trump and Biden administrations directly pressed Twitter executives to moderate the platform’s pandemic content according to their wishes,” Zweig wrote.
Musk announced on Twitter, “New Twitter policy is to follow the science, which necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science.”

Musk later responded to a video posted by professor Gad Saad which mocked Dr. Anthony Fauci over his decision to retire just before Republicans take over the House of Representatives next week.
“Anyone who says that questioning them is questioning science itself cannot be regarded as a scientist,” Musk said in response to the video about Fauci.
