Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appears to be following the mantra of Rahm Emanuel ensuring that the coronavirus crisis does not go to waste by pushing for a new round of “green” infrastructure spending. This latest push from Democrats to include political agenda items in coronavirus relief bills will come in the phase 4 bill. This is not the first time that the Democrats have used an economic downturn to try to push for a green agenda.
In 2009, shortly after President Obama was inaugurated, he and the Democrats signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Democrats and the media touted this bill as a modern “new deal” that would launch the American economy out of the “Great Recession” and into economic prosperity. What actually occurred was that green energy companies like Solyndra were given massive contracts by the Obama administration, which caused the American people to lose billions of dollars. Solyndra was the first company to be given a government-backed loan, and it was a big one. The administration gave the Californian solar energy company a $535 million “loan.” Within two years, the company had burned through nearly all of the taxpayer-fronted money and declared bankruptcy.
It is outrageous that some are using the American people’s hardships to push for their own political agendas…
While making an appearance on MSNBC “Live with Katy Tur,” Senator Chuck Schumer “doubled down on stupid,” stating that he and fellow Democrats intend to make the same mistakes that they made 11 years ago.
TUR: “First off, I want to talk about this new talk of an infrastructure bill in Congress to get people back to work. What would that look like? Who would it put back to work and are you taking into consideration green jobs, green infrastructure?”

SCHUMER: “Yes. If we’re going to — look, the COVID-19 can probably be more forward-looking at the economy, and if we’re going to do infrastructure, because there’s nothing better than getting the infrastructure going, and going in a big, strong way, we need it big, we need it bold, and we need it futuristic, which means green.
With many citizens in the United States hoping that Democrats and Republicans work together to pass bills that address the current coronavirus crisis, it is outrageous that some are using the American people’s hardships to push for their own political agendas.
