Well isn’t this interesting. So here we are in the middle of the Biden Afghanistan cut and run disaster. Afghans are frantically trying to attach themselves to C-17 US air transports as they leave Kabul, with at least one losing his grip and falling thousands of miles to his death. It is a scene of utter chaos and humiliating defeat for America, the televised images of 2021 Afghanistan frequently compared to the 1975 images of frantic Vietnamese scrambling to hold on to an escaping US helicopter taking off from the roof of the Saigon US Embassy.
The Biden Afghanistan disaster is so bad a British Member of Parliament went on the record that he views the President of the United States as a “total blithering idiot.”
And yes, believe it or not, Joe Biden had something to do with that Vietnam cut and run disaster as well.
Hop in the time machine with me and travel back to April of 1975. The Vietnam War rages, the North Vietnamese are gaining ground, getting closer to Saigon. The President of the United States is Republican Gerald Ford. The Democrats are in control of Congress – which is to say the funding for the war.
Ford receives a request from the Democrat-run Senate Foreign Relations Committee for an urgent meeting at the White House. One of the members of the Committee? That would be the freshman Senator from Delaware, Joe Biden.
In his memoirs, A Time to Heal: The Autobiography of Gerald R. Ford, Ford says this of the meeting and Joe Biden specifically.
The request for such a meeting was highly unusual. In fact, the last time there was such a request was during the Woodrow Wilson administration, over 60 years earlier. Ford describes his own meeting with the Committee as “extremely tense.” After a review of the political and military situation by Ford’s senior Cabinet members, including then-Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Ford says the message from the Senators was “clear: get out, fast.” Ford says Senator Biden specifically refused to vote for any money to help the South Vietnamese – period.
Wrote Ford:
“The Senators, I knew, were well-meaning, yet they were incredibly short-sighted. We couldn’t just cut and run.”
In fact, with the funds cut by Biden and the rest of the Senate Democrats (and even liberal Republican Senator Jacob Javits of New York) the inevitable cut and run came to pass within days. Says Ford:
“…the noose tightened around Saigon. Congress had refused to provide any additional funds for South Vietnam. Four days later, (South Vietnamese) President Thieu resigned and fled the country. Communist forces moved closer and closer to the capital. I faced the fact that the end was near.”
It was indeed. Within days of the meeting there was that now-infamous photo of a U.S. helicopter preparing to take off from the roof of the US Embassy, with frantic Vietnamese desperately trying to hitch a ride on the skids -and failing.
In other words?
America has been here before with Joe Biden. A full 46 years ago. As a freshman Senator, he did exactly to Vietnam what he has now done to Afghanistan – this time as president.
And it is producing exactly the same results: disaster.
Not for nothing has that British Member of Parliament publicly said that President Joe Biden is a “total blithering idiot.”
Shocking. Not.
