New York State will give $15,600 taxpayer dollars to an estimated 290,000 illegal immigrants, totaling $2.1 billion, according to the New York Times.
“New York will now offer one-time payments of up to $15,600 to undocumented immigrants who lost work during the pandemic,” the New York Times reported. “The effort — a $2.1 billion fund in the state budget — is by far the biggest of its kind in the country and a sign of the state’s shift toward policies championed by progressive Democrats.”
The payments are meant to compensate for job losses from the pandemic, with illegal immigrants eligible for the $15,600, “the equivalent of $300 per week for the last year, if they can verify that they were state residents, ineligible for federal unemployment benefits and lost income as a result of the pandemic.”
The Times added that if illegal immigrants “can prove at least their residency and identity, and provide some work documentation,” they may be eligible for $3,200.
The $2.1 billion to be given to illegal immigrants is part of a $212 billion deal agreed upon Tuesday by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who has become notorious for how poorly he handled the pandemic after it was revealed that his administration actively suppressed the release of data on nursing home deaths.
As legal U.S. families across America struggle to recover from the devastation to the economy after the pandemic, Cuomo’s decision seems to be an attempt to silence anyone doubting which governor handled the pandemic the worst.
