The mask keeps slipping. And nobody in Democratic leadership seems eager to grab it and put it back on.
A new compilation from Canary Mission caught Democratic Socialists of America members, DSA-backed candidates, and assorted far-left commentators talking about where they want to take the party.
The clips aren’t ambiguous. They’re plans.
DSA activist and streamer Michael Beyer put it plain: “The Democratic Party establishment that we have has to be ripped out,” he said on a panel. Then he went further: “We can actually start to grab hold of the ship of state and steer it our direction, but it’s going to be a violent process.”
Not “difficult.” Not “contentious.” “Violent.”
Oliver Larkin, a DSA congressional candidate in Florida, added his own contribution.
“This Democratic Party needs to change,” he said — before praising his appearance on the livestream of Hasan Piker, a commentator with his own history of flirting with political violence. “As Democrats, we need to go into these spaces,” Larkin said.
This isn’t a fringe curiosity anymore. The DSA has real muscle inside the Democratic coalition now. Zohran Mamdani’s win in the New York City mayor’s race put that on the map. Since then, DSA-backed candidates have kept winning primaries, especially in deep-blue cities.
The group’s actual platform isn’t a secret, either. Abolish the Senate. Abolish ICE. Abolish prisons. Open the borders. Defund the Pentagon. That’s the wish list.
DSA co-chair Megan Romer, for her part, framed it all as basic democracy.
“The establishment Democrats should be worried about the voters,” she told Fox News, arguing the party’s old guard isn’t delivering and her candidates are.
“It’s a ballot line,” she said of running as Democrats. “What matters is what the voters think.”
Fair enough. But voters deserve to hear the “violent process” part too — not just the ballot-line part.
