The House sent a message this week, and it came in bold type.

Lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning socialism — a rebuke not only of ideology, but of its recent rise in American politics.

The vote was 285–98, with 86 Democrats crossing the aisle. Two members voted present. Even House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who endorsed Zohran Mamdani days before his election, voted yes.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL), referenced the past: Castro’s Cuba, Mao’s China, Maduro’s Venezuela — systems marked by famine, oppression, and mass murder.

Its language was plain: “Resolved by the House of Representatives that Congress denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.”

It carries no legal weight, but the moment matters.

Progressive voices like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez keep pressing for expanded government control, while Mamdani — a self-described socialist — prepares to meet President Trump on Friday. The resistance to socialism may be growing. And it is no longer quiet.

Trump announced the upcoming meeting himself.

“Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!” he wrote on TRUTH Social.

Mamdani says he disagrees with the president, but will set those disagreements aside for the sake of his city. “I intend to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any agenda that benefits New Yorkers. If an agenda hurts New Yorkers, I will also be the first to say something,” he said.

Then he added a note about the voters: “I know that for tens of thousands of New Yorkers, this meeting is between two very different candidates who they voted for, for the same reason. They wanted a leader who would take on the cost-of-living crisis that makes it impossible for working people to afford living in this city.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson shared the results on X, saying, “House Republicans made it clear: America will NEVER embrace Marxism.”
