Elon Musk Fires Twitter Employee Who Called Him Out Publicly

Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday that he had fired an employee at the company after the employee called him out publicly.

The incident happened after Musk tweeted out an apology on Sunday for Twitter running slowly in some countries.

“I’d like to apologize for Twitter being super slow in many countries,” Musk tweeted. “App is doing >1000 poorly batched RPCs just to render a home timeline!”

Eric Frohnhoefer, a Twitter employee (at the time), responded to Musk, writing, “I have spent ~6yrs working on Twitter for Android and can say this is wrong.”

Shortly afterwards, Musk responded directly to Frohnhoefer, writing, “Then please correct me. What is the right number?”

“Twitter is super slow on Android,” Musk added. “What have you done to fix that?”

Another Twitter user responded to Frohnhoefer and warned that he should have discussed the matter with Musk privately.

“I have been a developer for 20 years,” the user wrote. “And I can tell you that as the domain expert here you should inform your boss privately. Trying to one up him in public while he is trying to learn and be helpful makes you look like a spiteful self serving dev.”

In response, Frohnhoefer wrote, “Maybe [Musk] should ask questions privately. Maybe using Slack or email.”

Musk responded to another account who had pointed out the exchange by revealing he had fired the employee.

“He’s fired,” Musk wrote.
