After being blown out in her state’s primary, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) announced that she is considering a presidential run in 2024.
Cheney’s announcement came just hours after she lost to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman on Tuesday, with Hageman receiving more than double the vote share of Cheney. With 99% of the vote reported, Hageman received 66.3% of the votes to Cheney’s 28.9%.
“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,” Cheney said during an interview on the “Today Show” on Wednesday morning.
Host Savannah Guthrie asked Cheney, “Are you considering running for president yourself?”
“That’s a decision that I am going to make in the coming months,” Cheney said. “I am not going to make any announcements here this morning but it is something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months.”
Cheney additionally said that she plans to continue her efforts against former President Trump during her remaining days in office. Cheney has served as vice chair on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) House select committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol Riot.
“I think that defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats and independents. And that’s what I intend to be part of,” she added.
