During an NBC News interview on Sunday, top Democrat strategist and former Clinton advisor James Carville said that Democrats need to “quit being a whiny party” if they want to be politically successful.
“You’ve got a situation right now. The Biden coalition — nobody’s happy,” NBC News host Chuck Todd said. “Progressives aren’t happy right now with how Build Back Better has gone. African American activists are not happy about how voting rights has gone. And if you look at the polling, the – honestly, the thing that’s cratering the most are independents. You know, the folks that just wanted the temperature turned down. You’re the president. What do you fix first?”
“Now, I think a lot of the Democratic base has not been told or informed of the things that President Biden and this Congress has accomplished,” Carville claimed. “But to me, those are the things that, if I’m a Democrat, I much more care about that than some word in a dictionary — that children are going to bed with a full stomach and a warm, you know, a warm house. I care that somebody, an hourly worker, is not sitting there working away at $7.25 an hour. And I see these signs all over, even in Louisiana and south Mississippi, $700 signing bonus. Those are real accomplishments.”
“And it’s something that you can run on. And again, you don’t talk about what you didn’t get,” Carville added. “That’s what these — Democrats whine too much, Chuck. Just quit being a whiny party. And get out there and fight, and tell people what you did. And tell people the exact truth. The Republican Party stands for nothing other than, ‘Let’s relitigate the 2020 election,’ or, ‘Let’s get back at Jamie Raskin.’ That’s it. That’s the entire platform.”

Carville also criticized the Democrats during an interview with Vox last year saying that “wokeness is a problem and everyone knows it,” but “they don’t want to say it out loud because they’ll get clobbered or canceled.”
After Republicans dominated in elections late last year, Carville explained that it was a result of Democrats’ “stupid wokeness.”
“What went wrong is this stupid wokeness,” Carville said. “Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis. Even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean, this defund the police lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools, that — people see that.”
“And it’s just — really have a suppressive effect all across the country to Democrats. Some of these people need to go to a woke detox center or something. They’re expressing language that people just don’t use. And there’s a backlash and a frustration at that,” he continued. “And we have got to change this and not be about changing dictionaries, and change laws. And these faculty lounge people that sit around mulling about I don’t know what are — they’re not working. Look what happened in Buffalo, again, Seattle. I think the Republicans may have won a city attorney’s race in Seattle, the autonomous zone.”
“Who could even think of something that stupid? And they’re suppressing our vote,” Carville concluded. “And I have got news for you. You’re hurting the party. You’re hurting the very people that you want to help.”
