Uh-oh. In his recent podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz”, The Washington Times headlines this of the Republican Senator from Texas:
Ted Cruz: ‘Multiple grounds to consider’ for Biden impeachment if GOP wins House
You read that right. The Times reported this:
“Sen. Ted Cruz said that a Republican-led House after the 2022 elections likely will consider impeaching President Biden on ‘multiple grounds.’
In the latest episode of his podcast ‘Verdict with Ted Cruz,’ the Texas Republican said he was extremely confident that his party will win Congressional majorities and that this would open the door for retaliation against the Democrats for impeaching then-President Donald Trump.
‘If we take the House, which I said is overwhelmingly likely, then I think we will see serious investigations of the Biden administration,’he told co-hosts Michael Knowles and Liz Wheeler, saying the odds were 90% and ‘may even be higher.’”
Cruz went on to quite accurately put his finger on the House Democrats’ central problem. They “weaponized” impeachment because Speaker Nancy Pelosi and company hated Trump. They spun the myth of Trump inciting an “insurrection” on January 6, 2021. Trump did no such thing. To the contrary, he told those thousands in attendance at the preceding rally on the White House Ellipse to protest “peacefully and patriotically” when at the Capitol, hardly a call to incitement.
The real problem here is that Pelosi and company were – and are – crazed for raw power. They are not about “public service.” They are about destroying America’s democracy, re-making America into an authoritarian state.
Cruz added:
“The Democrats weaponized impeachment. They used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him. One of the real disadvantages of doing that is the more you weaponize it and turn it into a partisan cudgel, you know what’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” he predicted.
…“I think there are potentially multiple grounds to consider for impeachment. Probably the most compelling is the utter lawlessness is President Biden to enforce the border. His decision to just defy immigration laws,” he said.
“That’s probably the strongest grounds right now for impeachment but there may be others…”
Cruz clearly was not enthusiastic about an impeachment. But his point that Democrats took the exceptionally rare use of impeachment and “weaponized” it to take revenge on a president for whom they had an obsessive hatred is clearly on point.
The irony here is that Democrats’ conduct has launched an enormous backfire, a tidal wave of serious political proportions that makes a GOP takeover of the House a real possibility. The upset election of Republican Glenn Youngkin as Governor of Virginia and the almost-election upset of Republican Jack Ciattarelli as New Jersey governor served as a wakeup call to just how angry the American people have become with Democrats in the Biden era. Whether its the price of gas or groceries or rent- or anything else – inflation has soared to its highest rate in 40 years.
But if the issues of the day drive a GOP House victory, it is the vengeful impeachment of Trump that would drive a Biden impeachment. Again, Cruz stated the obvious:
“What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
Exactly. And the only way to deal with the Democrats weaponization of impeachment is to turn the weapon around on one of their own – Joe Biden.
Not good – but probably necessary. And if in fact Biden is impeached he will have one person and one person alone to thank: Nancy Pelosi.
