During a Fox News interview over the weekend, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard revealed that “the American people are being lied to” by the Biden administration about the crises affecting the United States.
“The faith and trust that the American people need to have in our leaders is dropping every day,” Gabbard said. “The Department of Homeland Security Secretary recently told Congress our borders are secure. This is what he said, this kind of bold-faced lie whether it has to do with domestic issues or foreign policy issues.”
“We’ve seen this with Afghanistan and the tragically botched withdrawal of our troops and Americans out of Afghanistan, when people are being lied to, the American people are being lied to, it is revealing of the arrogance, and the self-serving nature of leaders who are in power in this country,” she added. “And the disrespect, the disrespect that they have for the American people, and it’s why people are losing faith and trust in those leaders. If we have leaders who respect the people, then the people will respect our leaders. If we have leaders who trust the American people, we will trust our leaders. And that’s the problem here is we don’t have leaders who have that trust and respect and who therefore put themselves ahead of the interests of the people.”
Gabbard’s comments come as the Biden administration is reportedly preparing for a potential surge of up to 400,000 illegal immigrants in October, nearly double the 21-year record broken in July when over 210,000 migrants illegally crossed the southern border.
“On a call this week with senior Department of Homeland Security officials, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas asked whether the department was prepared for a worst-case scenario in which 350,000 to 400,000 migrants cross the border in October, according to two DHS officials familiar with the conversation,” NBC News reported. “The two DHS officials stressed that the estimate is not based on internal intelligence or calculations, saying it is meant to prepare the agency for what could be an overwhelming number of migrants who cross if a court order that lifts the Covid restriction, known as Title 42, takes effect at the end of the week, as is possible.”
